Brandon Blackstock, Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband, Dies at 48 After Courageous Cancer Battle

The Tragic Story of Brandon Blackstock

Brandon Blackstock, the respected talent manager and former husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, has died at the age of 48 following a three-year battle with cancer (source). Known for his work in the entertainment industry and his close ties to country music royalty, Blackstock’s passing has left fans and loved ones mourning across the globe.

Life in the Spotlight

Blackstock was not only Clarkson’s ex-husband but also the former stepson of country music legend Reba McEntire. His career included managing prominent artists, showcasing his influence behind the scenes in the music world. Despite his high-profile connections, he maintained a relatively private life until his health struggles became public.

Clarkson’s Heartfelt Statement

On August 6, Clarkson revealed on Instagram that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency to be with her children during their father’s illness.

“This past year, my children’s father has been ill … I need to be fully present for them.”

Her words reflected both her deep concern for her family and her dedication to supporting their two children, River and Remington (full statement here).

Remembering a Family Man

Blackstock leaves behind four children — Savannah and Seth from his first marriage, and River and Remington from his marriage with Clarkson — as well as a grandson, Lake, born in 2022. His parents, Narvel Blackstock and Elisa Gayle Ritter, and siblings Shelby, Shawna, and Chassidy also survive him.

In a family statement, loved ones said:

“Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

Clarkson and Blackstock married in October 2013, and their relationship inspired Clarkson’s emotional 2015 song “Piece By Piece.” The couple filed for divorce in 2020, finalizing it in 2022, but continued to co-parent their children.
